The Quiz

How do you start ditching the ‘Black Dog’ of depression?

You’ve made the brave decision to try something new to help you to ditch the black dog of depression and create a life you’re enthusiastic about waking up for every morning.

That’s the first step to recovery.

But the one thing that holds a lot of depression sufferers back is knowing where to start!

There’s so much advice and trying to get to the bottom of it all can actually put you off getting started on your healing journey. I know, I’ve been there!

Should you cut out coffee? Quit sugar? Walk more? Go to therapy? Take medication? Find a therapist? Meditate? Do a ritual? Dump your partner? Book a holiday? Cut up your credit cards? Avoid social media?

It’s overwhelming!

But since you’re here, I’ll take a wild guess that you’re interested in a holistic method of managing depression, but you’re not sure how it works, where to start, or if I’m talking a load of old rubbish.

 You want to try something by yourself first to see how it goes.

So what do you start with?

I created this short quiz to help you find out where to start on the Gaian Path.

Quiz to find out how to start managing depression

Depression isn’t just about what’s going on in your mind.

It’s a complex illness that can be caused by a variety of things. Stress, illness, hormonal imbalance, grief and loss, trauma, debt, feeling trapped in a situation, wanting something you believe you can’t have, feeling like you don’t fit in, or aren’t good enough are just a few examples.

Depression can affect one or more areas of your life – your health, your job, your relationships, your finances and even the state of your home.

Your experience of depression is unique to you and your path out of the darkness will not be the same as anyone else’s.

The trouble is that the current system tries to offer a cookie cutter solution which usually includes some sort of talk therapy and of course, antidepressant medication.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, these things work for many people. But they often fall short of offering proper support and solutions with the actual causes of your feelings of depression.

It’s a bit like sticking a dressing over a stab wound whilst the knife is still in there. You might staunch the bleeding, but underneath the wound isn’t actually able to heal properly.

So how do we start healing holistically?

The most important thing you need to know is….

You don’t have to do everything all at once.

You just need to know the first tiny little step to take to start ditching the black dog.

This quiz can guide you towards the first thing to focus on.

This could be:-

💚 Making time to address and tend to an emotional wound;

💚 Dealing with unwanted negative thoughts;

💚 Decluttering your home, one drawer at a time;

💚 Identifying a specific situation that’s causing you stress and making a plan to change it;

💚 Getting better sleep;

💚 Feeling less alone by finding support through connection with a safe and understanding community; or

💚 Practicing self care and nourishing yourself in ways that feel good to you!

How it works:

Answer the questions as honestly as possible. There are no wrong answers.

Take your time and come back to it later if you can’t finish it in one go.

When you complete the quiz, you’ll receive your results.

They’re shown as a percentage, and the result with the highest percentage is likely the main one that’s contributing to your feelings of depression.

Each result has a link to a page that shows what you should prioritise and focus your attention on to improve your mental health and wellness,

PLUS

a simple, actionable tip you can use right away to begin your journey of ditching the black dog.

As a bonus, I’ll show you how the Ditch the Black Dog Virtual Retreat can help you manage depression.

I read every single quiz. (Don’t worry, I don’t share them with anyone.)

I’ll write to you via email with any thoughts I have about your answers, so make sure you use your best email address when you start the quiz.

So if you’re desperate for change but don’t know what to do first, this quiz will help you decide where to start.

Take a deep breath, answer the questions and let’s find your first step towards ditching the black dog

Who I am and how I can help you if you’re suffering from depression.

Hi, I’m Maria,

I’m a magickal mental wellness mentor (and black dog whisperer!) for people looking for natural and alternative ways to lift persistent low moods and situational depression, so they can create a life worth waking up for.

I’m not here to diagnose or prescribe medication – only a licensed medical professional can do that.

But what I do offer is a space to fill in the gaps left by conventional therapy and medication.

I’m here to help you if you’re;-

😔 Feeling unsupported and left to cope alone;

💊 taking meds you might not need, or that make you feel awful;

👩‍⚕️  paying for endless talk therapy sessions that spend too much time focusing on your past, leaving you feeling exhausted, disempowered and broken.

My own battle with depression led me to create Ditch the Black Dog Virtual Retreat – a healing space rooted in both science and magick.

I spent years researching depression and training in modalities that could help me get rid of it.

Today, I’m a certified coach, counselor, nature therapist, and advanced hypnotherapist.

But that’s only part of the story.

I’m also a Gaian Witch, practicing Gaian Magick™, Soul Healing, and Energy Work

WARNING!!! I’m about to say something controversial…

I don’t believe that antidepressants and endless talk therapy actually work for most people struggling with depression and chronic low moods.

For some? Sure.

But for most of us? Not so much.

Even if we manage to ditch the black dog using meds and talk therapy, the second we stop, the depression usually creeps back in.

I believe there’s a better way.

One that digs deep into why so many of us feel depressed and flips conventional treatments upside down.
